Tesserae on Tour: Palestrina’s Perfect Art
Friday, February 7, 2020 - Saturday, February 8, 2020
The great nave of Washington National Cathedral is the perfect setting for the transcendent ars perfecta of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and other composers of the late Italian Renaissance. Splendid voices offer sacred motets, instruments perform canzone and dances, and all join forces for the sonorous polychoral works of Andrea Gabrieli and his nephew Giovanni, leading figures in Venetian music of the 17th century. The award-winning Folger Consort is joined by British vocal ensemble Stile Antico and the Tesserae brass for this magnificent performance.
Folger Consort is ensemble-in-residence at the Folger Shakespeare Library. Founding artistic directors Robert Eisenstein and Christopher Kendall established the ensemble in 1977, and continue to create programs that offer opportunities to discover and enjoy music from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods.
