Tesserae presents Bach’s late masterwork, Musikalisches Opfer (The Musical Offering). The Musical Offering consists of Bach’s contrapuntal exploration of a single theme given to him by the King of Prussia in a famous 1747 visit: a dizzying ascent into musical complexity in a series of canons, ricercars, and the famous Trio Sonata. The music represents the absolute height of Bach’s exploration of music-as-science: the epitome of musical craftsmanship, human ingenuity, and musical discovery.
