Tesserae at Sierra Madre Playhouse: Ferrara 1590
Sunday, April 21, 2024, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Music historians have pointed to the existence of several distinct “schools” of keyboard music on the Italian peninsula in the sixteenth century. These traditions seem to culminate in the music of Girolamo Frescobaldi, who interwove these various strands while ushering in the new Baroque style in keyboard music. Although usually associated with Rome, where he made his
career, Frescobaldi was born in the city of Ferrara, which, under the ruling ducal Este family, became a prominent musical center in the late sixteenth century. Featuring music by Merulo, Gabrieli, Ercole Pasquini, Macque, and others, this program will explore the rich tapestry of keyboard traditions as Frescobaldi might have encountered them as a young man in Ferrara.
Tickets are priced between $30 and $45, offering a range of options for attendees. As an added luxury, complimentary champagne will be served to guests.
