The Art of the Countertenor
Sunday, November 21, 2021, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Renowned countertenor Reginald Mobley joins Tesserae for our season opener, a concert celebrating the rich and wonderfully varied musical world of the Baroque countertenor. The countertenor – a voice type that has become a cornerstone of the early music movement – has a rich repertoire of music from the Baroque, including music originally written for the castrati, the super-stars of Baroque opera. Noted for his “shimmering voice” (BachTrack), Mr. Mobley will be performing Bach’s iconic cantata Widerstehe doch der Sünde (BWV 54), as well as works by Erlebach, Handel, & Vivaldi.
